Gilbert Claes

Architectural and Abstract Photography

With a perfect balance of shapes, colours and light, his photography can captivate the viewer with a single line.

Gilbert is a member of the highly curated 1X fine arts photography community. He considers himself a follower of ‘suprematism’, which he describes as an Abstract Art movement based upon ‘the supremacy of pure artist feeling’ rather than on the visual depiction of objects. In school, his favourite subject was aesthetics, the doctrine of beauty. He later studied at the art academy of Hasselt, and won several national and international short film competitions.

''My style is a mix of colors, lines, movements and objects or subjects to be transformed into a painting containing a lot of emotion.’’

Claes seeks technical perfection in his work with pure, minimalistic and strong compositions. Now a teacher, he conveys his love for architecture through his photography work.

Gilbert is inspired by the work of the Flemish, French and Dutch painters for their beautiful colors and control of light. They have strongly influence his photographic vision.
